A Career Driven By Compassion 7

Dr. David Kemp Thrives on Giving Back to his Community and Changing People’s Lives.

It was the kindhearted action of another person that led Dr. David Kemp to a career in orthodontics. Because for Kemp, who has been in business over 30 years, it’s been much more than placing braces and fixing smiles. “When I was in the seventh grade, I was able to get braces only because an orthodontist saw there was a financial need in our family and helped us,” he says. “I am indebted to him to this day. This act of kindness impressed me so much that my path was set.”

Kemp has developed an ultra-esthetic braces system to “create beautiful smiles” for his patients. Kemp’s braces system is so unique that 3M Oral Care has contracted him to speak to orthodontists nationally and internationally about how they can use the same system in their practices. Dr. Kemp also teaches and lectures to orthodontists in his Franklin office throughout the year. “I am very pleased I can provide this advancement in orthodontic technology to my patients,” he says.

Kemp notes there have been “endless milestones” throughout his career that have made him proud. But one in particular stands out.

Ten years ago, Tiffany Davidson was a sophomore in college and, due to the appearance of her teeth, she made a decision to go to a local dentist with money in hand to have her upper teeth removed and replaced with dentures. Says Davidson, “Every time I would smile or laugh I would cover my mouth. I was so embarrassed for anyone to see my teeth, and I reverted inward. I just wanted a normal, straight smile.”

The dentist explained to Davidson that their practice could not be of service, and referred her to Dr. Dennis Wells of the Nashville Center for Aesthetic Dentistry. Wells then referred Davidson to the philanthropic Pinnacle Seattle Study Club of Nashville, of which Kemp was a member, which chose to take on her case without hesitation.

“We were delighted to have the opportunity to change a most wonderful young lady’s life through our professional abilities,” Kemp says. “I am thankful to Dr. Wells of the Nashville Center for providing Tiffany’s world class restorative veneer treatment and to Dr. Michael Skinner for his periodontal treatment.”

“My goal was to become a lawyer,” says Davidson. “I completed law school in Memphis, with honors, and have practiced family and personal injury law for the past two years,” she says. “I’ve moved back to Middle Tennessee and I am now interviewing at law firms in Brentwood and Franklin for a career in real estate law. This was a life-changing event. This journey has improved my quality of life in an unbelievable way, and has given me the freedom to truly be who I want to be.”

It was a life-changing event for Kemp as well. “My job is all about relationships and how you develop those relationships through changing people’s lives,” he says. “I have been extremely blessed to be able to give back to our community by taking care of those who are less fortunate and cannot afford needed treatment.

“Treating Tiffany and watching her story unfold has been one of my greatest professional and personal experiences. To see her reach her full potential is more rewarding to me than words can really say. This story and the stories of all my patients capture what my idea of being a successful orthodontist is really about: changing people’s lives in a positive way by creating their beautiful smiles.”

“Dr. Kemp has played such a pivotal role in my renewed sense of self and newfound happiness. To put it simply, he has changed my life. I can honestly say that I am now my true self. I love to smile and I absolutely love to laugh, but I never felt like I could fully do either of those things for fear of judgement. Now, my smile and laugh can finally reflect my whole heart and my whole personality.

“Investments that contribute to your confidence are truly worthwhile and I’m extremely happy that I trusted Dr. Kemp with this one. His kindness and his passion for what he does shines through every appointment, and the very same can be said of his employees. I could not be happier with my experience.”
